health definitely comes first, but i think it's super valid to grieve the things we let go of, even if it's for the best. :( i enjoyed getting to know you through this!

ps. i also hurt my knee in college after a brief stint cheerleading (weirdly, it was a requirement for first-year students at the university). it wasn't a big injury or whatever, but my knee has also never been the same since, so i totally felt that

I do still mourn it on occasion. Knee injuries, however slight, can be bad! Thanks for your comment!

I really enjoyed reading about how we can hold both sorrow and nostalgia at the same time. I feel this about all of the distance running events I used to do.

I haven't been able to find any feeling quite like the combo of exhaustion and exhilaration I felt after running all day through the mountains.

Thank you for sharing!

Thank you for writing this and being vulnerable. What a great story about going beyond your comfort zone.

Thanks, Rachielle! I try to do things outside my comfort zone not regularly, but once in a while. It can be stressful sometimes but usually works out in the end.

Same here! I forced myself to ski beyond the bunny slopes. My kids had outgrown them and I was feeling lonely skiing by myself. That was many years ago but I still remember how magical it was listening to the sound of the ski on snow. Or to be the first one on the mountain after a fresh fall.

That sounds amazing! I’ll bet it’s like being the first one on the ice after it’s been Zambonied!
