I have a couple of writing wins I’d like to share. First, a micro memoir (50-200 words) I wrote was accepted for publication! I don’t know if I can yet say which literary journal it will be in, but I’ll definitely post a link to it when it’s published in January!
The feedback I received from my writing coach on Act II was good. The comments were positive, there are no plot holes and I’ve shown the characters’ emotions. This makes me feel that maybe writing my novel is really worthwhile.
The deadline for Act III isn’t until January, and in the meantime, I’m making my way through the exercises in the Writing the Breakout Novel Workbook,1 which is a companion to the book Writing the Breakout Novel by Donald Maass. So far these exercises are helping me to expand the project, which is good because I’m so worried about meeting the word count for a novel, which is a minimum of 70,000 words. His craft books have helped me so much, and I’m thinking of taking his workshop next year.
